Show all pricing in AUD, not USD
Context
Most AI/SaaS vendors quote pricing in USD. When evaluating tools, comparing AI model costs, or budgeting infrastructure, raw USD numbers don't reflect the actual P&L impact for an Australian business (AUD ~1.52 per USD as of 2026-04). Mixing currencies in spec docs and reports leads to under-estimating spend.
Detail
Options considered
| Option | Pros | Cons |
|---|---|---|
| A โ Convert to AUD at point of decision | Real-money view; matches accounting books | One-off conversion friction |
| B โ Keep USD with parenthetical AUD | Vendor source-of-truth visible | Confusing in dashboards / quick scans |
| C โ Pure USD | Easy to copy from vendor pages | Misleads on actual cost |
Decision
We chose: Always show AUD as the primary figure (option A). Optional USD in parenthesis only when sourcing directly from a vendor page.
Rationale
Aspire's books are AUD. Stripe Connect, Xero, payroll โ all AUD. Every business decision (does this tool pay for itself? does this campaign hit ROI?) needs an AUD number to be answerable.
Constraints we accepted
- One extra ~5-second conversion step when reading vendor pages.
- Need to refresh the working exchange rate occasionally (currently 1 USD โ 1.52 AUD).
Revisit trigger
Aspire begins billing significant revenue in USD (e.g., US customers) โ then dual-currency views may become useful.
